The Rest of the Story--Tony's Testimony
As I lay there in my dark prison cell, I wept and thought about my wife, Candy, and how she constantly pleaded with me, “Tony, please give your heart to Jesus. I need you to be strong for me.” I tried to sleep, but I kept seeing demons looking back at me. They were so ugly. I opened my eyes to try to get them to leave. But all I saw then were the dirty walls of my cell covered with graffiti. The only clean spot was the ceiling because it was too high to reach. Then I remembered something from my childhood about Jesus. I stood on the top bunk and wrote “JESUS” on the ceiling. “Jesus is the name above all names.” I cried out to God, “Please help Candy!”
Later, I was moved to a different cell, and as I entered, I saw a picture of Jesus hanging on the wall. There was also a man named Michael standing there. He was in prison for life. It seemed he did not have much to live for, but he was smiling so big that his lips were touching both ears. He told me that it was not by chance that I was moved to this cell.
As the day moved on, we talked more and more about Jesus. Michael said that I must talk to God and ask Him to save me. I was so heart-broken about my life. I had tried every class about how to get off drugs. Nothing helped. I was afraid my wife was dying. My children were beginning to act out in unacceptable ways. My life was a mess and as a result, my family was suffering.
How would God be forgiving of a man like me?
The next morning as I woke up, I saw Michael still beaming from ear to ear. Michael told me the Bible says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved--you and your household.” I said, “Do you mean my wife will be healed and my children will be all right?” Michael told me that all of this could be mine. I said, “Michael, I want to know the same Jesus that has set you free! I want your joy. I want this more than dope and even more than freedom.” At that moment, he led me through the sinners’ prayer. I immediately felt the chains that bound me drop off. The heavy load that I was carrying around left me. I felt a great sense of freedom and happiness. I couldn’t wait to tell someone else about what had happened to me. A guard came nearby and I shouted to him, “I just got saved!” He turned and ran and shouted, “Something must be wrong with Tony Mac!”
No, something was finally right with Tony Mac!!!!
